Regular Full-Time


Three twelve hour shifts- self scheduling

The Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) is a 16-bay Recovery Room that provides immediate postoperative care to surgical patients in accordance with ASPAN standards. The PACU Nurses care for both adult and pediatric patients who have undergone a broad range of surgical procedures, with acuity ranging from Ambulatory to Critical Care. Surgical specialties include ENT, Urological, Vascular, Plastics and Thoracic, with an emphasis on Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, General Surgery and Transplant.



-          Self-scheduling; Eight week schedules

-          Three 12-hour shifts per week, Monday through Friday

-          Day shifts with staggered start times from 7:00am-11:30am

-          Minimal call and off shift requirements; Maximum  of 12 hours per call shift

-          BSN required; Candidates enrolled in a BSN program will be considered

-          PACU and/or Critical Care(ICU or ED) experience required

-          BLS  required upon hire;  ACLS and PALS  required  within  3 months  of hire (classes will be reimbursed by the hospital)


-          Exceptional customer service skills  and commitment to patient safety

-          Flexibility and willingness to participate in a dynamic,  learning environment

-          Desire to participate in continuous  performance improvement

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The incumbent in this position is responsible for providing competent professional nursing care using the nursing process. These functions are performed in accordance with the District of Columbia Nurse Practice Act and all other applicable laws and regulations and Georgetown University Hospital's philosophy, policies, procedures and standards. EDUCATION AND OR TRAINING REQUIRED: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing. LICENSURE AND OR CERTIFICATION: Current D.C. license as a Registered Professional Nurse; current Basic Life Support (BLS). EXPERIENCE: To meet unit criteria. SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: Ability to perform the nursing technologies.  Effective verbal and written communication skills.  Ability to set priorities and work under stress.
