The Principal Mechanical Engineer with Advanced Manufacturing focus position is in the RD function supporting manufacturing product design for electromechanical continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) devices. Specifically, will act as the liaison between the design and operations team to ensure that design is manufacturable during concepting through design transfer at the time of product launch.
**A Day in the Life**
-Setup/Design of pilot manufacturing line including documenting work instructions, ordering equipment and training technicians.
-Support development builds and onsite with any trouble shooting/root cause
-Gage Repeatability and Reproducibility including attribute and variable design, execution and analysis
-Process development support including process characterization using statistical capability
-Burndown and influence design decisions that involve processes new to Medtronic Diabetes CGM production lines
-Lead design for manufacturability and assembly workshops
-Work with design team to ensure design is manufacturable
-Lead Design for Manufacturability Modelling in Munro and Associates Design Profit Software or equivalent to score the manufacturability of a design and influence improvements up front
-Support design transfer to the Operations function
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.
-Researches, plans, designs, verifies, validates and develops mechanical and/or electromechanical products and systems, such as metals, instruments, controls, plastics, robots, engines, machines and mechanical, resonance, hydraulic or heat transfer systems for production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy.
-Recommends various technology options or approaches for system, processes, facility or program improvements in terms of safety, performance, efficiency or costs.
-May be responsible for the transfer from RD to manufacturing.
**Must Have: Minimum Requirements**
Bachelors Degree in Engineering or science and 7+ years of experience, or advanced degree with 5+ years of experience.
**Nice to Have**
Experience with Process development including process characterization and analyzing processes for statistical capability using MiniTab or equivalent
Experience with process qualification (IQ/OQ/PQ) processes
Experience with high volume quantities
Experience with automated production equipment and processes like PLC control, ATS SuperTrack Conveyor, Omron Robots, Pneumatic Cylinders, bowl feeders and pick and place equipment highly desired
Experience with 3D modeling software, ideally Solidworks
Experience with Medical device product development process
Experience in both design and manufacturing roles
