Our growing Structural Heart business is seeking an experienced Principal RD engineer to join our team. In this role, you join the Research and Innovation organization to help carry out the early phase development of new transcatheter valves and structural heart technologies.
**A Day in the Life**
Design, develop and optimize transcatheter heart valve delivery systems
Develop deep understanding of procedure through cadaver and animal studies to refine device usage and procedural aspects in partnership with physicians
Apply knowledge of materials and processes to come up with working designs
Work with development teams to translate customer and project requirements into performance criteria, alternative approach analyses, and selection criteria to determine the optimum design approaches.
Prepare detailed design specifications that define performance and interface requirements for components.
Manage product interfaces across implant, catheter, accessories and packaging, including setting up requirements flow and ensuring design changes are properly evaluated.
Design, develop and validate new advanced test methods, measurement techniques, and fixtures.
Identify issues, conduct root cause analysis, and map out resolution when designing parts, components and sub-assemblies using engineering first principles and appropriate test evaluations
Develop project plan to manage the work individually and across multiple team members
Proactively manage deliverables and provide regular updates to both project and functional management. Be responsive to changes in work direction and develop creative plans for meeting aggressive business milestones.
Direct the activities of technicians to ensure project milestones are completed correctly and on schedule.
Provide coaching and mentorship to junior level engineers.
Contribute to defining the direction for new products, processes, standards, or operational plans based on business strategy
Communicate with internal and external customers and vendors at various levels; represent work through internal conferences and collaborations across multiple business units and functions.
Generate and document invention disclosures to secure intellectual property on therapies, procedures, and associated devices.
Organize, prepare and present technical information material in a clear, effective and skillful manner to management, marketing and clinicians using high-quality drawings and prototypes.
Maintain technical knowledge current with advancing technology related to cardiovascular valve repair/replacement products and associated accessories by engaging in continuing education programs in selected disciplines and in new fields of engineering and/or project management.
**Must Have - Minimum Requirements**
Bachelors Degree with 7+ years of experience or Advanced Degree with 5+ years of experience
**Nice to Have**
B.S. in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Material Science.
Implantable medical device product development.
A strong verbal and written communicator, fluent in English.
PC experience (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project, etc.).
Previous catheter design and testing experience.
Proficiency with SolidWorks.
Hands on experience with laboratory testing methods and fluid flow measurements.
Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology
Strong familiarity with interventional cardiology clinical procedures / practices.
Knowledge of statistical methods.
Ability to work well with others.
Skilled in project management and planning.
Extensive customer interaction experience.
Self-starter and driver able to execute effectively.
Flexible and adaptable, comfortable working in a dynamic environment.
