Neuromodulation therapies are used to treat individuals with movement disorders, chronic pain, epilepsy, urinary or fecal incontinence, and other potentially debilitating diseases. Medtronics Neuromodulation division is focused on identifying and developing therapy options to help relieve burden associated with these diseases. The Research and Core Technologies organization is focused on developing early-stage technology concepts and therapy innovations with the goal of delivering products that impact patients lives and drive Medtronics growth. Research and Core Technologies does this as part of the larger Neuromodulation Research Development organization.

As a member of the Neural Engineering Technology team within Research and Core Technologies, you will work collaboratively across therapy research groups and technology development groups to help identify relevant technology concepts, prove out or retire concepts through focused de-risking activities, and ultimately work with product development to translate promising concepts to commercial product.

**A Day in the Life**

As a Biomedical Engineer on the Research and Core Technologies Team, you will propose, design, execute, and manage technology projects to investigate approaches to improve existing therapies and address new applications that aim to reduce our patients disease burden and improve their quality of life. You will work collaboratively to:

Understand needs within a given therapy or across therapies:

Gain a thorough understanding of current Neuromodulation products

Evaluate and assimilate current neuromodulation trends and landscape to identify unmet needs and generate ideas

Identify novel concepts and test concept feasibility:

Design and execute hypothesis-driven work (e.g. computational, benchtop, in vitro, pre-clinical, human clinical, as needed) to identify and answer key knowledge gaps

Manage and contribute to technical design and evaluation efforts. Demonstrate ability to work independently and meet pre-defined timelines

Translate technology to product

Participate in handoff efforts to translate promising technology building blocks into the product development pipeline

Champion ideas into products by working cross-functionally with engineering, clinical, risk, regulatory, and medical safety partners

Publish and present internal reports to capture research findings and communicate to peers and management


**Must Haves**

Bachelors degree and at least 7 years of relevant experience, or Advanced degree with at least 5 years of relevant experience in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or similar

**Nice to Have**

Demonstrated domain knowledge in neuromodulation and/or neural engineering research

Ability to interact and work in a team-based environment including collaboration across disciplines

Ability to communicate ideas, concepts, and plans

Experience with preclinical, clinical, benchtop, or computational research in neuroscience, neuromodulation, or neural engineering or equivalent

Strong desire to understand issues related to and work to restore health in the Neuromodulation field

Knowledge of central and peripheral nervous systems anatomy and physiology

Experience with computing and data analysis environments (e.g. MATLAB)and/or programming languages (e.g. C++,Python)

Experience in hypothesis-driven research study design, management, and execution

Excellent problem-solving skills and able to work on various levels of the problem
