**A Day in the Life**


This position is in the Boston, MA Seaport District; as a key member of the Hardware and Software Integration Center of Excellence Lead,the Integration Engineer will be a leader within the Medtronic RD engineering team to develop and support the next generation robotic assisted surgical system.


This Integration Engineer is a technical leader in a system-level, fast-paced RD environment, guiding a team to deliver advanced technical expertise and solutions to complex engineering problems. This engineer shall contribute to the development of a complex system that includes aspects of robotics, controls, imaging, multi-user interfaces and minimally invasive surgical instrumentation.


This engineer will participate in the debugging and root cause analysis related to hardware and software defect resolution. This individual shall collaborate with Electrical Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, Software Engineers, Reliability Engineers VV and Service Engineers to ensure the system design meets system and subsystem requirements. This engineer will also develop tools for monitoring system performance, improving utility of logged data, and enhancing debugging.


**As the Principal Engineer, you will:**


+ Maintain working knowledge of the system design and performance against the requirements

+ Rapid response triage, root cause, debugging and repair

+ Work with subsystem electrical engineers to facilitate integration process across subsystem components and develop a deep understanding of the system

+ Test, maintain, and upgrade electrical components for communicating with and controlling a complex mechatronic system

+ Circuitry will involve a mix of custom digital (microprocessor / DSP / FPGA), analog (op-amp, current sensing, filtering), and power electronics circuit design, as well as off-the shelf equipment

+ Develop and document repair and retrofit procedures and maintain configuration management

+ Coordinate with field service engineers on the system troubleshooting and repair

+ Interface with quality engineers to prepare documentation, maintain records, and release reports

+ Support contract manufacturer with troubleshooting production equipment

+ Guide strategic efforts to improve the integration process and to influence the development process based on integration needs and challenges

+ Communicate with management related to project objectives, schedules, system performance, and integration needs

+ Contribute to the assessment of proposed design changes and impact based on test evidence

+ Provide written disposition and evidence to resolve anomalies generated from integration issues


**Must Have: Minimum Requirements**


+ Bachelors degree required anda minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with 5 years of experience


**Nice to Have**


+ Demonstrated skills in managing priorities and coordinating team activities

+ Experience working with multiple teams on concurrent, interdependent projects

+ Experience with highly regulated and/or safety-critical systems is required (medical device experience strongly preferred)

+ Ability to measure voltage, current, and signal integrity with common electrical debugging tools such as a multimeter and oscilloscope.

+ Ability to read and understand electrical circuit schematics and wiring diagrams

+ Ability to read and understand mechanical and electrical assembly drawings

+ Ability to write detailed reports and work instructions

+ 2+ years of work experience in product development

+ Prior experience in system-level development of a complex electro-mechanical system

+ Working experience in full-lifecycle engineering programs and processes

+ Excellent communication skills

+ Knowledge of relevant technologies including:

+ Mechatronics / Robotics

+ Mechanical and electrical interfaces

+ Communication protocols

+ Sensors, actuators, controllers

+ Kinematics of mechanisms

+ Vision and display systems

+ Good understanding of structured product development (requirements-driven engineering, documentation, rigorous verification, etc.) Engineering verification test development and execution

+ Strong experience with motors and motor control, especially using BLDC motors

+ Experience with sensors such as Encoders, Hall Effect Sensors, Torque, and Load Cells

+ Experience with Ethernet

+ Familiarity with QNX and Linux operating systems

+ Certified in IPC-7711/21 for PCBA rework and repair

+ Familiarity with electronic design tools, e.g., OrCAD and Allegro.

+ Experience with QNX and knowledge of C and C++.

+ Medical device development experience

+ Knowledge of medical product RD and clinical/regulatory process

+ Fluency in English required

+ Standard office setting, clean room, surgical lab, operating room, pilot lab, external research organizations, supplier visits

+ Travel and flexible hours as needed

+ Based in Boston, MA USA
