This position is with the Medtronic Tempe Campus Device Operations group. This group is responsible for medical devices in multiple technologies as they transition from Product Development through obsolescence. There is a tremendous focus on quality and reliability since many of these products will be used in Implantable Medical Devices. Additionally, this position will be part of a new, technology heavy start-up portion of the business focused on proactive approaches to product performance. The group also supports product monitoring and leads product improvements via design, test, and process engineering areas. Product engineers in this area will have a mix of both product and process expertise. Additionally, the group also monitors and supports root cause analysis of field returns and product non-conformances, as well as both the strategies and execution for proactive monitoring.


A Day in the Life:


- Own/Support the strategy and execution of proactive vigilance and post-market monitoring for the medical device Products produced in the organization, espousing the highest standards of quality, reliability, and technical rigor


- Have a solid understanding of statistical principles, Lean/Six Sigma/DRM/DFSS practical application, mechanical and electrical fundamentals, problem solving methodologies (such as fault tree analysis, etc), and be willing to innovatively solve issues


- Own/support yield improvement initiatives in support of both quality and business outcomes.


- The candidate will be responsible for product monitoring in a start-up environment.


- The candidate will be expected to have a complete understanding of technical principles, theories, and concepts in the field to support product monitoring, understand interactions, resolving issues, and making improvements.


- The candidate will work in a team environment and support multiple initiatives and will be expected to independently determine and develop their approach to each assignment.


- Interact with design, test engineering, and manufacturing to understand root cause of issues and to improve design and test methodologies.


- Support business goals for Quality, Cost, and Delivery and collaborate with functional groups.


- Monitor and improve manufacturing operations (yields, inventory holds) using Lean Six Sigma tools and methodology (design of experiments, statistical process control, lean management system, kaizens, DMAIC)


- Support compliance requirements, including Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA) and Product Non-Conformance Reviews, including assessing these for product area impact when on adjacent products


- Assess supplier driven changes through Part Change Notifications (PCN) for potential impact against product requirements.


- Support products as they transition from Product Development to released product.


- Manage projects, involving delegation and review of work; at times acting as a team leader or program manager.


- Provide guidance, coaching and training to other engineers within job area.


- Communicate frequently, technical and non-technical details, to functional support groups.


- Ensure that all documents are of professional quality and that they meet company guidelines


- Performs other position related duties as assigned.


- Travel: less than 25%


**Must Have: Minimum Requirements**


+ BS degree required

+ Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience


Nice to Have:


- MS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent discipline and prefer 5+ years in Product Engineering or a related discipline


- Knowledge of medical device design, test, fabrication


- Knowledge of wafer fab process and process integration


- Experience in post-market monitoring or other post market medical field related roles


- Must be able to apply basic principles, theories, and concepts in electronic circuits/systems


- Must be able to apply basic principles, theories, and concepts in mechanical engineering and systems engineering


- Experience with engineering lab or benchtop systems (power supplies, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, etc)


- Experience applying a variety of statistical tools to production data to improve product and process understanding (Six Sigma, DMAIC, Minitab, JMP, Spotfire, Streetwise, etc.)


- Experience with design of experiments


- Must be able to develop technical solutions to complex problems that require critical thinking


- Coach / Mentor other employees


- Must be team-oriented and able to guide the successful completion of major programs in a project leader role.


- Leadership skills associated with influence management


- Strong statistical analysis skills


- Strong overall communication skills


- Strong technical writing skills


- Strong presentation skills and experience using presentation tools and applications.


- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to influence others.


- Experience working in or with a manufacturing environment.


- Experience working in or with regulated environments.


- Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
