In this exciting role as the Ablation Systems and Instruments Senior Engineering Manager, you will have responsibility for leading a talented engineering team that supports new product development and post-market sustaining of our tumor ablation platforms within the Gastrointestinal Operating Unit.

With direct responsibility for the systems and instruments engineering team, you will collaborate with other Medtronic engineering groups and program managers in the development and maintenance of our multiple ablation platforms (hardware, software, instruments) that are available globally.

_Gastrointestinal Operating Unit_

The Gastrointestinal Operating Unit is focused on improving patient outcomes and setting new standards of care in GI and Hepatology.

HEPATOLOGY is supported by a dedicated cross-functional team focused on delivering and maintaining tumor ablation procedural solutions that span the care continuum to improve treatment outcomes for patients with liver cancer.

**A Day in the Life**

_Leadership and Talent Management_

Primary responsibility of this role is managing people. Focuses on managing performance, developing talent, engagement and inclusion, communicating business and operational developments, planning, prioritizing and / or directing the responsibilities of direct reports.

Accountability for mentoring, developing and coaching staff on meeting/exceeding performance expectations. Conducting performance reviews, and staff 1:1s to guide performance and employee development efforts and manage toward departmental goals.

Selects, develops and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function (systems and instruments engineering) and to ensure team maintains strong engineering capability.

Providing leadership to staff ensuring the prioritization of strategic and department level initiatives. Identifies and prioritizes work for engineering team, with a GI and Hepatology-wide requirements perspective. Partners cross-functionally with business partners to identify priorities and requirements.

_New Product Development Released Product Management_

Guides the conceptualization of new methodologies, materials, machines, processes for new product designs and design changes

Assists in the development of project requirements and the execution of resource allocation for the development of a market-released medical product

Plans, designs, reviews and oversees the testing of devices according to international safety standards

Drives strategic initiatives focused on continuous improvement in product development engineering

Collaborates with software engineering and program management to ensure compliance with Medtronic (including DRM) and industry standards in medical device development

Supervises the execution of design related CAPAs and supports team members by allocating appropriate resources

Interfaces with cross-functional leaders to ensure proper allocation of engineering resources to address released product issues

**Must Haves**

Bachelor's Degree and 7+ years of Engineering experience and 5+ years of managerial experience OR Advanced Degree and 5+ years of Engineering and management experience

**Nice to Have**

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering

Medical device product development experience

Strong people leader with experience motivating and developing technical talent

Experience in implementing system engineering best practices

Strong interpersonal, quantitative analysis, and problem-solving skills

Strong business acumen and planning

Excellent downward, lateral, and upward communication skills (oral/presentation and written).

High degree of initiative and influence management skills

Knowledge of US and international medical device regulations and standards
