The Sr. Principal Electrical Engineer identifies and drives the implementation of product cost reduction and optimization opportunities in Surgical Robotics employing the practical application of electrical design principles involved in digital and analog circuit design and test, motor control, robotics and high-speed digital communication.


1. Researches, develops, designs, and tests cost effective electrical components, equipment, systems, and networks.

2. Designs cost effective electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes.

3. Relies on Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VA/VE) and design for excellence (DFX) methodologies to identify and implement cost improvement opportunities.

4. Formulates, delivers and/or manages projects assigned and works with other stakeholders to achieve desired results.

5. May act as a mentor or may direct the work of other colleagues.

6. Procures and manage contractors.

7. Most of the time is spent delivering product and process cost reductions from design to implementation - while adhering to policies, using specialized knowledge and skills.

**Must Have: Minimum Requirements**

+ Bachelors degree required

+ Requires a University Degree and minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience

**Nice to Have**

10 years of relevant experience at Sr. level or above.

Experience in a medical device related industry with a demonstrated track record of developing capital products/processes for new products.

Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Robotics or related field, Masters degree preferred.

Knowledge of regulatory requirements that pertain to medical device electronic systems.

Significant history with IEC60601-1 including electrical safety and EMC testing.

Strong experience with motors and motor control, especially using BLDC motors.

Experience with sensors such as Encoders, Hall Effect Sensors, Torque, and Load Cells.

Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for optimizing product costs.

Knowledge and extensive experience on Project Management.

Strong Mechanical Aptitude (aptitude for understanding and using machines and/or tools).

Six Sigma/Lean certified preferred.

Well versed in Design for Excellence (DFX) Principles.

Knowledgeable in risk management methodologies such as DFMEA and PFMEA.

Seasoned user of electronic design tools, e.g., OrCAD and Allegro.

Effective communication skills with superiors, peers and subordinates.

Travel required 20-30% of the time. International travel may be required.
