Systems Engineering is a discipline that
integrates technical, scientific and clinical disciplines to assess, define and
implement efficient and effective therapy solutions. Responsibilities span from
the presentation of our therapies to patients and clinicians, through
architectural design and requirements definition for future systems, to
implementation verification and validation in preparation for commercial release
and human utilization.

The position
of Senior Director of Systems Engineering is responsible for assessing and
integrating state-of-the-art systems engineering practices and human factors
engineering skills and processes into the Restorative Therapies Group
implantable businesses including Pain Management, Brain Modulation, Pelvic
Health and others. Success of the business is dependent on our ability to
effectively address the sophistication and complexity of our therapies and
technologies in a robust, reliable and consistent manner to engineers,
management and customers.

successful incumbent will be comfortable with basic sciences such as neurophysiology
and anatomy, the physical sciences including physics and chemistry and all the
engineering disciplines including human factors, electrical, mechanical,
biomedical, and software. The incumbent will be directly responsible for a
department staffed by human factors, systems, and biomedical engineers.

**Position Responsibilities:**

+ Set strategic direction for requirementsmanagement, human factors engineering, therapy systems architecture to ensure superiorityin the therapy solutions including infusion and stimulations devices,instruments and accessories.

+ Develop a comprehensive functionalexcellence plan for the Systems Organization covering standards, productarchitecture, requirements management, and the process for design inputs.

+ Developpersonal and organizational understanding of emerging systems

+ engineering science for potential application to ourbusiness.

+ Drive platformand subsystem leverage across the entire product portfolio to achieveefficiency and effective implementation.

+ Ensure clear,cohesive and robust architectural design and requirements specifications forall products (leads, catheters, pumps, stimulators, programmers and accessories)in the portfolio.

+ Provide administrativefunctional management for the Systems Engineering organization comprised ofsystems and human factors engineering disciplines.

+ Coach,mentor and develop systems engineering talent in pursuit of sustainedindustry-leading solutions.

+ Nurture anetwork of clinicians to support and advise on direction and key platform decisions.

+ Collaborateand influence strategic direction and operational execution, priorities andissues associated with technology and products in our internal partner organizationsof Medtronic Energy and Component Center, Medtronic Technology Center andBakken Research Center, as well as other areas of expertise and interdependenceas they emerge over time.

+ Ensure theQuality Systems are understood, implemented and

+ maintained within the department.

+ Maintaineffective communication with the business sector leadership team, team membersand functional leadership in all activities required to design, develop anddeliver the product successfully.

**Basic Qualifications:**

+ BS degree in Engineering or physical sciences.

+ BS with 15+ years work experience in engineering or program management; or MS/advanced-degree with 13+ years of engineering or program management experience.

+ 10+ years of progressive people management experience

**Preferred Qualifications:**

+ ESEP or CSEP INCOSE certified

+ Medical Device, Defense/Aerospace, Telecommunications or Automotive Systems Engineering leadership experience (Director or VP level- Program or People Management)

+ MS/PhD in systems engineering, electrical engineering, biomedical engineering

+ 5+ years of work and/or leadership experience with human factors engineering – formative and summative study design, user-center design principles

+ 15+ years of pertinent-level management experience with responsibility for management of a technology and product portfolio.

+ Demonstrated experience in systems engineering or related field including assessing emerging technologies/therapies.

+ Demonstrated experience in engineering disciplines including human factors, electrical, mechanical, biomedical and software.

+ Demonstrated business acumen, executive presence and communication skills

+ Demonstrated experience setting strategic vision and objectives for a large systems engineering group with one level of functional management

+ Proven skills in design for reliability (DFR) DFSS, DMAIC, Agile development methodologies.

+ Experience with products and/or technologies similar to those in Neuromodulation (in terms of systems complexity).
