SURGICAL INNOVATIONSsets the standard for Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) by creating innovative surgical products and services that focus on obesity and diseases and conditions of the gastrointestinal tract, lung, abdominal wall, pelvic region, and the head and neck.
The Medtronic Surgical Robotics Business is working to expand global access to care through a portfolio of robotic solutions. Together, we will transform surgical care by expanding access, providing differentiated solutions, reducing variability, and improving patient outcomes.
A Day in the Life
The Product Consultant, Surgical Robotic Systems, is responsible for leading the upstream marketing for new surgical robotic systems as the company prepares to enter the $3B surgical robotics market. As a member of the global marketing team, the individual will be responsible for generating global customer insights, establishing customer requirements, and building the strategic roadmap for our robotic system product platform.
Customer Insight Generation:
+ Generate actionable customer insights by executing primary and secondary research, visiting surgeons / customers, participating in advisory board discussions, attending society meetings and engaging regional partners
+ Represent voice of the customer in team discussions to guide trade-offs and product feature / design decisions
New Product/Solution Development:
+ Collaborate with surgical robotics team functional leaders to advance new product/solution opportunities from ideation to active product development
+ Represent marketing on cross-functional new product development teams to define project scope and prioritize / validate customer needs
+ Lead development of go-to-market strategy, value proposition and key claims
+ Develop and update financials, and ensure team alignment with key assumptions
New Opportunity Assessment:
+ Evaluate the strategic and financial attractiveness of growth opportunities, including disruptive technologies, minimally invasive/robotic surgery solutions and advanced therapies/products to improve patient outcomes.
+ Conduct in-depth assessment of new markets and emerging technologies / therapies to recommend the best entry strategy for Medtronic
+ Develop and present business cases to justify investment in the new opportunities
Business Development Assessment:
+ Collaborate with functional and regional partners (Business Development, Regional Marketing, RD, Medical/Clinical/Regulatory Affairs, Finance) to evaluate potential targets
+ Lead market assessment and business case development
+ Ensure team alignment on strategic rationale, commercial strategy, financial valuation
Strategic/Financial Analysis:
+ Collaborate as needed with functional partners to support strategic planning and portfolio optimization projects
+ Own market and financial analytics, including market models, financial proforma, project valuation
Must Have: Minimum Requirements
+ Bachelors degree required
+ Requires a University Degree and minimum of 10 years of marketing experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 8 years of marketing or engineering experience
Nice to Have
+ MBA strongly preferred
+ Product marketing experience with large medical capital devices
+ 5 Years experience in upstream marketing, strategy and product management
+ Proven track record of driving results with strategy development and execution
+ Global commercialization/product launch experience
+ Excellent analytical, problem-solving and critical thinking skills
+ Hands-on experience with complex market and financial analysis
+ Adept at leading, influencing and communicating with diverse cross-functional teams
+ Excellent writing, presentation skills; strength in Excel and PowerPoint
+ Self-starter, results driven, competent managing multiple priorities simultaneously
