**POSITION DESCRIPTION:**


Medtronic is a fast paced, dynamic, medical device company with sales, manufacturing, research and development and operations in over 150 countries and operational headquarters located in Minneapolis, Minnesota and its Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) Finance Center of Excellence located in Heerlen, Netherlands. We are seeking an income Tax Manager with strong technical, compliance and audit experience in five or more countries within the EMEA region, and who thrives in a challenging and fast-paced workplace the desire to actively contribute to and learn from our talented and diverse group of tax professionals within the EMEA region and within the Global Tax Department.


In this role, the Tax Manager, EMEA, will have responsibility over designated countries income tax compliance (managing an outsourced provider), audits, and tax planning. In addition, this person will have responsibility over selected EMEA tax projects as well as assist the MA Tax group with EMEA MA (and joint venture) deals, EMEA acquisition integrations and divestitures. This position will require delivering technical analysis on various EMEA regional and global projects,researching complex tax related issues and work in collaboration with other persons in the Tax Department, Controllers, Finance, Treasury, Legal and business stakeholders.You will report to and in addition to the above responsibilities, provide support to the Senior Tax Manager, EMEA, on various EMEA related income tax matters.


Medtronics Tax Department consists of over 100 tax professionals and support personnel located in different locations in the U.S. and six different locations outside the U.S. The Tax Department is broken down into seven major groups: Reporting Tax Accounting, Compliance, MA and Tax Planning, Audits Controversy, Transfer Pricing, International Taxes and EMEA VAT. This position reports into the International Tax Group led by a Senior Director located in Heerlen, Netherlands. **POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:**


**Primary accountabilities will include, but are not limited to:**


+ Reviewing and managing income tax compliance returns and reports (tax compliance is currently outsourced);

+ Managing and assisting the Senior Tax Manager on audits, relationship with local tax authorities and managing litigation with outside service providers;

+ Local country planning;


+ Supporting the Senior Tax Manager, on all corporate tax matters for all the entities under responsibility in the EMEA region;

+ Establishing workplans for implementing income tax strategies set by the VP International Taxes and the Sr. Director, International Taxes;

+ Understanding the relevant impact, exploring mitigation strategies, recommending and implementing strategies and responsive actions to manage existing positions and capture cash tax and PL tax opportunities; and

+ Review, monitor, assess changes and developments of tax law in jurisdictions within the EMEA area including EU tax rules and regulations and evaluating the impact, including keeping up to date on new EU tax law developments such as ATAD, BEPS, MLI etc.


**Other Responsibilities:**


+ Support to the Corporate Tax Team on all internal quarterly tax reporting matters (e.g., FIN48, Perms, credits and valuation allowance, DAC6, etc.);

+ Support to EMEA Controllers on tax provisions and deferred income taxes;

+ Support regional and global tax, finance, business and other non-tax led projects;

+ Proactively identify income tax issues, support developing tax strategies, and drive implementation of solutions; and

+ Collaborate on tax accounting and compliance with oversight on adherence to the organizations tax policies and objectives.


**BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:**


**Education required:**


Master degree in Tax or International Tax


**Years of experience:**


+ Minimum 7 years of international corporate income tax experience in a law firm, large corporate in-house tax department or public accounting.


**REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:**


+ International corporate income tax compliance, audit, and tax planning experience across multiple EMEA countries.

+ Strong oral and written English language skills


+ Experience with restructurings, mergers acquisitions and integrations.

+ Strong project management skills with proven history managing multiple projects with minimal supervision, completing them within deadlines.

+ Working knowledge of local GAAP and US GAAP

+ Able to work independently as well as part of a progressive, high-performing team collaborating across functions, giving direction and providing review comments effdectively and when needed.

+ Ability to apply good judgment, financial acumen and problem solving skills to identify and resolve critical tax risks; demonstrates high ethical standards and shows a strong work ethic.

+ Strong verbal and written communication skills.

+ Culturally sensitive and comfortable in international settings.
