This role has the responsibility and authority to lead a team of Test Engineers to develop and perform verification validation activities for software and systems to ensure Medtronics cutting-edge medical products meet our users needs and our quality and reliability standards. This position requires technical expertise and provides team leadership to solve complex technical problems with ingenuity and creativity. Position contributes to strategic direction for all aspects of Test Engineering including programs to positively impact development, production, installation, and service of products to the global marketplace. Work is performed under limited direction.


**A Day in the Life**


The Test Engineering Manager is responsible for strategic and tactical execution of Test Engineering activities and developing, supporting and growing a highly engaged diverse and inclusive team. Specific tasks include:


+ Directs and coordinates activities of assigned staff to ensure project timeliness to goals, objectives, and milestones.

+ Recruits, hires and develops Test Engineering staff.

+ Plan and conduct user validation testing, including user recruiting, designing and conducting usability tests, summarizing and communicating results.

+ Ensures compliance with standards and regulations, including ISO and FDA QSR.

+ Participate in all phases of product development as needed such as reviewing requirements, design, usability, risk assessment and defects.

+ Provide technical leadership and mentoring to other test engineers.

+ Responsible for tracking departmental project execution metrics that help gauge the performance of the test organization.

+ Identifies plans and executes test process improvements as a means to continually improve the performance of the Test Engineering team.

+ Formulates and maintains test engineering objectives complementary to corporate policies and goals.

+ Develops new approaches to solve problems.

+ Maintain proficiency in the use of testing tools and methodologies.

+ Effectively communicate and present findings, problems, and solutions within the team, organization, and outside the organization including recommendations for actions and prioritization.

+ Collaborate and maintain excellent working relationships with team members and stakeholders.


**Must Have: Minimum Requirements**


**EDUCATION REQUIRED:**


+ BS / BA degree


**YEARS OF EXPERIENCE**


+ 5+ years of project/team management experience with BS/BA (3+ with advanced degree)

+ 3+ years of progressive leadership experience in functional area or related field


**SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE HIGHLY PREFERRED**


+ Experience with usability validation and human factors (IEC 62366)

+ Experience with verification or design of complex software and hardware systems

+ Understanding of software development methodologies and software lifecycle

+ Ability to work in a team environment


**Nice to Have**


+ Proven leadership skills and mentoring capabilities

+ Able to handle multiple tasks/projects and manage priorities

+ Experience with Agile and iterative development practices

+ Strong understanding of federal and international medical device regulations, such as FDA QSR, ISO 14971, 62304, 62366 and 13485, and EU MDR

+ Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communications, time management, and organizational skills

+ Engineering management experience in a regulated environment

+ Experience managing contractors and offshore teams
